Fifth Class Visit Ballycroy National Park
Wednesday 21st April saw fifth class travel to Ballycroy to visit the National Park Centre. Children explored the exhibition area and listened to the guides talk about why this area is so special. Special attention was paid to the flora and fauna that is to be found there. The children then followed the guides who took them on a short walk around the centre, where they looked for specimens of the plants and insects they learned about inside. They used 'pooters' to capture and examine some specimens of the insect life. Finally they searched for living creatures in the pond water that was taken from a nearby pool. The ecosystem that exists here in the bogland is unique. The plants and animals have adapted to make this environment their home. We apologise to any insects or pond weed disturbed by our school field trip!!
